A win is a win! Overall, we are happy with the result and, even though we lacked consistency in certain areas, we showed some real grit to avenge our away loss earlier in the season.

We started very well defensively and were controlling the Santa Monica attack. Then with 10 minutes gone, we attacked from deep within our 22  and went the length of the field to see a great individual try from Man of the Match Zac Harrison converted by James Muse.

But the next 30 minutes up to half time were disappointingly error ridden and  costly turnovers, a yellow card and poor discipline denied us any continuity resulting in Santa Monica scoring  score 3 tries and a penalty to put them 7-22 up at the half.

Fortunately, we came out strong in the second half dominating the contact situations and with direct phase rugby the Santa Monica defense began to crack and tries from Daniel Bird, Zach Harrison, Callum Bartlett and Tai Te’o along with a long-range penalty from Robert Figley put our noses in front.

Santa Monica came back though with a try of their own and one at the last play of the game but we had done enough to win 36-34. We were happy with our scrum and our ball retention gave us a platform from which to play from key efforts  by Bird, Harrison, Schilling and Captain Weischedel.
